Using Swift Mail

Sending identities

Default Sending Addresses

The compose editor populates the From field with the default account address (the address you use to sign into Fastmail, for example) when composing a new message in Swift Mail.

Account Default

Fastmail allows changing the account default to an alias via their web app. Unfortunately, this setting is not exposed to third-party clients via the JMAP protocol at this time.

However, adding a local preference to Swift Mail is planned. Visit the Roadmap to be notified when support is added.

Mailbox Default

Swift Mail supports per-mailbox default sending addresses when composing new messages.

  • The From field of the compose editor will automatically display the default address of the currently selected mailbox (if set) in the sidebar.

  • To configure default addresses for specific mailboxes, head to the Get Organized section under the Fastmail settings sidebar and look for the appropriate Label or Folder settings entry. Select a mailbox to edit, and set the Default address field under Show advanced preferences.

Note: The message's receiving address is used when replying to or forwarding an email addressed to an alias.
